Mr A. Curry, of Christchurch, is visiting his mother, Mrs J. Curry. Senr., Cornwall Street, Masterton, Mr H. P. V. Brown, dentist of Christchurch, is visiting Masterton. and is the guest of his sister, Miss A. M. Brown, Essex Street. The death has occurred of Mr. Leo Stein, aged 59 years, says a Press Association message from Dannevirke. Mr. Stein was connected with Dannevirke and Southern Hawke’s Bay affairs for 40 years. He had been chairman of the Dannevirke Hospital Board for the past 10 years, and was former-, ly a member of the borough council.; He leaves a widow and three daught-i ers. Lieutenant J. A. Carroll, a member) of the New Zealand Expeditionary) Force in Egypt, had the distinction to be one of two New Zealand officers in-; vited to dinner by Lady Wavell. Two) Australian and two English officers.! some A.T.S. girls, two nurses and a I V.A.D. were also present. Lieutenant,: Carroll, who is a nephew of the Misses) M. and A. Anderson. Eketahuna, had) the honour of escorting Miss Wavell to| dinner. A dance was held after the! dinner, at the Gezira Club, where a I large number of officers and nurses | were present. The death has occurred in Welling-1 ton of Mr. Thomas E. Burn, a partner! in the engineering firm of Burn and) Sons, Petone. Born in Tasmania in 1889, Mr. Burn came to New Zealand I in his boyhood and was educated at the! Pe’.'.-ne Central School and the Petone Technical College. He served his apprenticeship under his father, and then J went into the firm in partnership with j his father and brother, continuing in partnership with Itis brother after his! father's death. In Ms earlier days Mr. I Burn was a member of the Petone Rugby Football Chib, and he served in) the Great War.
The funeral of the late ?dr W 1.) Wallace took place yesterday morning The services al the residence in Masterion, and at the Crematorium at Karori were conducted by the Rev. V. W Joblin. There was a good attendance at both services. Many beautiful floral tributes were received including wreaths from the .stalls of the Bank of New South Wales, National Bank of New Zealand. Bank of Australasia, Bank of New Zealand, ('mon Bank, Commercial Hank, and the ofiicers and members ~f the .Mastertun Miniature Ritle Club The ['.all bearers were Messrs.
