MASTERTON CLUB I BOOTH CUP AND SHIELD. I TEAMS TO PLAY CARTERTON. The following are the Masterton Bowling Club's teams to play Carter- ' ton at Carterton for the Booth Cup and Shield on Saturday:— Booth Cup: Thomas. Bannister. Beecroft. Carstens (si; Mills. Campbell W. Hendry. E. Reid is). Shield: Holdsworth. Wylie Roberts. '! A. O. Jones is). ! ■ SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY CHRISTIAN. (Notes by "The Bowler.") I The finals of the champion singles of I the Masterton Club, wore played yes- . I terday afternoon. : W. Christian met E. Reid, but as J Reid had two lives. Christian had to i beat him twice, and this he succeeded ' in doing. | The first game was an interesting ■ one. although Christian had a com- : manding lead on the 13th head, the I scores being Christian 17, Reid 6. In : the next four heads, Reid put on 7 | points, and on the 17th head the score- | board showed Christian 17. Reid 13. ! Reid, however, was unable to make up I the leeway, and the game concluded in i Christian's favour. ' The second game was not so interf esting, as Christian, in the first five heads, pul on 10 points, while Reid I failed to score. Although Reid tried i hard to make up the deficiency, ho was 1 unable to do so. and the game ended in I Christian’s favour. 1 must congratulate Christian on his line play in winning the champion ■ singles. I He was beaten only once in the early i part of the competition, but ho pul up! hi fine performance in beating that sea-J I soned player. E. Reid. who. until he, reached the final, had won all his I games. ; Christian also won the single chain-j i pionship last season. j I must also oiler my congratulations ! io E. Reid, who had been playing excellent bowls during the competition, i'l'o come through to the final, without! ja loss, was in itself a good perform-j I once. Christian will represent the Masterton Club in the Wairarapa champion of champion singles, to be played on Saturday next. The details of the games played are as follows:— First game: On the sth head. Christian had a lead of 2 points, but al the 13th head, he had'increased that lead l to 13 points. Reid then played excellent bowls for the next 4 heads, and put on 7 points, reducing Christian's lead to 4 points. Christian, was now 4 up, with 4 heads to play, and the gam? concluded with the scores Christian 20, Reid 15. Second game: On the sth head the scores were. Christian 10. Reid 0. At the 13th head, Christian was leading by 9 points, and on the 16th head the; scoreboard showed Christian 20, Reid! 10. The match concluded on the 19th j head when Christian had a lead of 10: points. PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP. In a championship pairs match yes-j terday Bannister and Carstens beat A. I Hendry and W. Hendry.
