EFFORTS AMALGAMATED NURSING AND NAVY QUEEN. MISS BURLING RETIRES FROM CONTEST. At meetings of the Nursing Services Queen and Navy Queen supporters, it has been agreed to amalgamate the efforts to provide less overlap. Miss Burling (Navy) has very sportingly and generously agreed io stand down for the campaign and wishes all who supported her to transfer their allegiance to Miss Barton (Nursing-Navy) as “Princess Royal." Miss Burling's services will not. however. be entirely lost. She has agreed to act as proxy for Miss Barton at some of the functions where the latter cannot be present, and has very graciously agreed to support Miss Barton’s candidature fully. Previous supporters of both these organisations are asked to rally round I the joint service. ARAIY QUEEN MARBLES CHAMPIONSHIP. MUNICIPAL HALL LAST NIGHT. The Wairarapa Marbles Championship was decided in the Municipal Hall last night. Some of the competitors showed exceptionally good form and many exciting games were witnessed by an interest gallery of spectators. Mr. G. T. O’Hara-Smith, the winner of Section A. went down to Mr. S. Gerrand. the winner of Section B. in a hotly contested final, and the Novelty j Cup was presented to Mr. Gerrand | amidst applause. j The novelty Cup was the handiwork ; of Messrs. F. Pickering, S. Smith and i W. C. E. Nichols, to whom the organi-i sing Committee expresses its thanks. I The committee also thanks Messrs. C. ’ E. Daniell, Ltd., for assistance render-! ed. i VISIT TO MAURICEVILLE. CONCERT AND DANCE. Tonight residents of Mauriceville will be treated to a concert and dance in the Mauriceville Hall. An excellent programme has been arranged and the visiting artists have spared! no effort to provide patrons with an I enjoyable time. Tomorrow the usual Bring and Buy Shop Day will be held in the Army Queen’s depot in Daniell's Building. On Saturday night a monster procession of territorials and interhouse | girls will be held in Queen Street and I this will be followed by an interhouscl dance in; the Municipal Hall. There I will be many new novelties and every ( effort made to give supporters the ut- i most in entertainment. 1

AIR FORCE QUEEN SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAV. VISIT OF NOTED BAND. Due no doubt to the splendid response to appeals sufficient produce was forthcoming at the Air Raid Shelter yesterday to conduct a shop day. Excellent business was the result and this, together with the other activities of an energetic ladies' committee, will considerably augment the funds for the Air Queen. .A bring and buy day is to be held at the Air Raid Shelter on Friday next, where donations of produce of any kind will be gratefully accepted. On March 8 Masterton is to be fav-; oured. with a visit of the Band of the! Royal New Zealand Air Force, The band will Comprise 58 members and is under the conductorship of Flight Lieutenant Gladstone Hill. Whilst in Masterton (March 8 9 and 1(1) the band will give several ix’rformances, and in all will cover their complete.' activities-. The first performance will; be at the Showgrounds. Solway i>i>..
