I MEETING OF MASTERTON COUNCIL 1 EMERGENCY BILLETING OF CITY PEOPLE. SURVEY TO BE MADE. | Mr R. E. Gordon I..ee presided over ' the monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council, which was held in the Council Chambers. yesterday. There were also present Councillors H. H. Mawley. P. R. Mr Mackley. referring to the ordered evacuation of the city said it was the haphazard movements of refugees which hampered the troops and caused indirectly the downfall of France. Cr. G Moore said he thought the hills in Wellington ottered excellent opportunity for the building of raid shelters, and that this work should bt begun immediately The Building Controller. Ministry of Supply, advised that under the Emergency Regulations now in force m Local Authority could issue a permit tor any constructional work requiringi the use of more than half a ton o' structural steel, the estimated cost o' which exceeded £2.000 unless th< prior consent of the Ministry of Suppl; had been obtained.
