OSTEND BOMBARDED
BV BRITISH NAVAL UNITS HARBOUR WORKS STRADDLED BY SALVOS. MANY FIRES STARTED. An Admiralty communique broadcast by the 8.8. C. states that units of the Royal Navy carried out a bombardment of the German-occupied port of Ostend in the early hours of yesterday morning. Salvos straddled the harbour works and many fires were observed. No damage or casualties were sustained by the British forces. A German communique admits the bombardment but makes the usual claim that the ships were driven off by the coastal batteries. The enemy communique makes no mention of any damage.
