FATAL CRASH
VERDICT AT INQUEST. NEED OF MORE RIGID PHYSICAL TESTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FOXTON. This Day. The inquest on the death of Leading Aircraftsman K. Haase was held before a jury today. Evidence was given by Pilot Aircraftsman Holmes that he had been feeling run down for a fortnight prior to the crash and had reported to the medical officer on his way over from i Blenheim to Ohakea. He experienced | air sickness when the navigator was I taking the controls on the return trip and said he lost consciousness, coming to too late to avoid crashing into the river. The jury returned a verdict that Loading Aircraftsman Haase met his death by drowning and added a rider that, in view of Pilot Aircraftsman Holmes's evidence, a more rigid test of the physical fitness of pilots should be imposed before pilots take machines into the air. At the conclusion of the inquest, a service inquiry was held in camera.
