QUEEN CARNIVAL

I. CAMPAIGN FOR AIR FORCE CANDIDATE ATTRACTIONS THIS WEEK. GARDEN PARTY ON SATURDAY. ■ An event of major importance in Queen Carnival campaign will be the garden party to be held on Saturday, commencing at 2 p.m.. at the residence of Mrs W. A. Burling. Roberts Road. Lansdowne, in aid of the Air Force Queen candidature. Miss Jose Hosking. These beautiful grounds are an ideal setting for such an occasion, and all who attend are assured of an afternoon’s entertainment out of the ordinary. Admission to the grounds is free. Donations to be Raffled. A valuable Ansley China Tea Set has been donated by Mrs W. A. Burling. Lansdowne, to be raffled on behaff of the Air Force Queen. The Air Force committee also gratefully acknowledge a donation of a beautiful crushed velvet cushion from Mrs A. Madden and Miss E. Burlin’g. The two donations are on view in the window of Mrs Lilian McKenzie, Beauty Salon. Queen Street, and tickets are also available at “Air Raid" > Shelter. Activities at Shelter. The Air Force committee has decided that in future all its activities with regard to raffles, will be conducted at the- “Air Raid" Shelter, in front of the Midland Hotel. The public is therefore invited to give their support in this area. Grand Concert. A concert has been arranged for show night, Wednesday. February 19. in the Opera House. The principal attraction will be the appearance of the celebrated Huimai Maori Party in full force. This party is putting on an entertainment out of the ordinary. Leading artists will assist in making this one of the brightest concert parties in the province.

ARMY QUEEN MANY EVENTS THIS WEEK. MARBLES CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW. Attention is drawn to the Army Queen atractions this week. The marbles. dart and quoit championships will be held in the Municipal Hall tomorrow night, when past and present champions will put their skill to the test. A large number of entries has been received and some interesting play should be witnessed. On Thursday night a concert party will visit Mauriceville, details of which wil be found among the Mauriceville notes. On Friday, the weekly bring and buy shop day will be hold al the Army Queen depot in Daniell's building. An urgent request is made to all supporters for the supply of meat, vegetables, groceries and till other saleable goods. The week's campaign will conclude on Saturday night with a grand street parade and interhouse dance for which a most energetic committee is arranging an unusual and attractive dance programme.

The draw has been made for the Wairarapa marbles championship to be played at the Town Hall. Masterton. tomorrow .commencing at 7.30 p.m. Owing to the large number ot entries received the championship will be played in two divisions, the winner of each division playing off for the championship gold cup. Marbles will be provided, but competitors may bring (heir own "tors,” but may not use "stinkies" or "hots."

Members of the public are invited to attend. Post entries will be received for darts and quoits and there will bo numerous other attractions for the entertainment of the public. The draw is as follows:—
