CARTERTON

BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday a commencement was made 'with the champion rink games for the purpose of finding the rink to represent the Carterton Bowling Club in the Centre competitions. Four teams are competing and Saturday's results were as follow: Larson. Simmonds, Harrington. Newbould (substitute for Riggs, s), defeated A. Thompson Bain Barr, Hughan (s), 29/22; Smith. Underhill. Barber, G. W. -Hart (s) beat Callender, W. Steven. Tucker. Sorensen (s), 17/14. Other games played were: Daysh. G. Steven, Kilmister. Martin <s) beat Colson, Booth. McCarty. Whyte (s), 22 19; j Beaven. Wicks. Clarke. W. A. Hart (s).| beat Lindop. PankhursL Foster. De-1 Lacey (s), 29/23. Personal Items. Mr Dan Jensen, acting under medi-j cal advice, has entered the Croydon ■ Hospital for treatment. Mr Francis Bennett, of Khandallah. i Wellington, died on Friday at the age I of 81 years. Deceased was well knownl by the older residents of Carterton! where he was for some time headmas-! ter of the Carterton School many years j ago. He was one of the foundation members of the Carterton Bowling Club and became a member of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge of Freemasons. Carterton 50 years ago. His wife predeceased him two years ago. Mr Bennett is survived by two sons. Mr J. R. E. Bennett, a member of the legal profession in Wellington, and Mr W. B. Bennett, of Christchurch, and three daughters all of whom reside in Wellington. Mf. J. C. Harp's many friends will ! be pleased to learn that he is very i much improved in health. The Rev. Father J. O'Sullivan, of Auckland, is visiting relatives in Carterton.

Miss Mara Tyler daughter of Mr. F. E. Tyler, of Carterton, who has helc the rank of Captain in the Salvatior Army, has been promoted to Adjutant " Mrs Davidson, who has been visit ing relatives and friends in Auckland has returned to Carterton. Carterton Races. The Carterton Racing Club’s annual race meeting will be held on the Clarevillc Racecourse on Saturday. March 8. The club asks all sports bodies t< note the date to avoid clashing. Swimming Competitions. The weekly club competitions of the Carterton Amateur Swimming Club will be held in the Pembroke Streel baths tonight. The principal event will be the 100 yards club championship. Presentations to Miss Irwin. On the eve of severing her connection with the firm of Messrs Feist and Co., Miss B. Irwin was the recipient ot a very useful wedding present in the form of a pair of blankets. The manager. Mr W. C. M. Sorensen, in making the presentation referred to the excellent services rendered to the firm by Miss Irwin during her several years of employment in the drapery department of the firm. He wished the recipient good luck and many years of happy wedded life. Miss Irwin returned her thanks to Mr Sorensen for his kindly words and to the staff for their handsome wedding gift which was very greatly appreciated. There was a very large attendance at the Parkvale Hall on Saturday evening when the residents of Waihakekc and surrounding districts tendered a "parcel evening" to Miss B. Irwin who is shortly to be married The time was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton and Mr G. Harding (Masterton). Messrs C. Jensen. Junr.. and V. J. Ashton were M.'sC Several appreciated extras were played by Miss V. Irwin. Mr D. J Irwin and Mr Oates. A spot waltz was won by Private Tomlin and partner. At a suitable interval Mr W C. M. Sorensen asked the guest to accept and open the many parcels which she did timid applause. Mr J. Jensen returned thanks on behalf of Miss Irwin. Supper was supplied by the ladies of Waihakeke. Dr. W. J. C. Wells wishes it to he known that he can only see patients in future in the morning by appointment His afternoon and evening consultation hours will be observed as before
