QUEEN CARNIVAL

PROCESSION ON SATURDAY NIGHT CAMPAIGN OF NAVY CANDIDATE. PRESENTATION TO THE PUBLIC. A procession which the Navy Queen Committee hope portends a crowning in March paraded in Queens Street on Saturday night, - when Miss Audrey Burling, the Navy candidate in the Queen Carnival was presented to the public. The Municipal Band led the procession and then followed the Queen, with her princesses driving in Mr R. Pinhey's cab. the “Royal Coachman'’ complete with silk hat and formal black of other days. Behind, in sharp contrast, came a modern motor lorry with a group of sailor girls, prettily dressed in blue and white uniforms. Next in order were floats representing the various sports bodies which are helping to support the Navy Candidate, and a long line of motor cars bearing other supporters. Halting at the Municipal Hall, the procession maintained a carnival spirit with songs and music, before the dance began at which Miss Burling was presented to the chairman of the Central Executive Queen Carnival Committee. Mr J. Jameson, by the Navy Committee chairman. Mr H. L. Esau. Speaking to the large gathering of dancers, Mr Jameson, after introducing Miss Burling, outlined the objects of the carnival and urged the public's greatest possible support. Two raffles were drawn during the dance. The first, for a decorated cake presented by Mrs B. Iveson, was won by Ticket Number 82E, Mrs Kilmister. Queen Street. Masterton. and the second raffle, for a hamper donated byMr F. Yule went to Ticket Number 441 E. E. Shrimpton. MEETING TONIGHT. All supporters of the Navy Queen are reminded of the general meeting to bo held in the Lecture Room. Municipal Buildings, tonight at 7.30 o'clock. NURSING SERVICES THIS,WEEK'S ACTIVITIES. Tonight at 8 o'clock the Women’s National Welfare League is holding a bridge and five hundred evening in the Municipal Social Hall in aid of the Nursing Services Queen. Everyone is cordially invited. On Wednesday a shop day run by the V.A.D.'s will be held at the headquarters shop in Perry Street. On Thursday at 7.45 p.m. a monster card evening will be held iti the Y.M.C.A. On Saturday next the St. John Ambulance (Cadet Division) is holding a dance in the Masonic Hall. The proceeds of this dance will go towards the Nursing Services Queen funds. Supporters are reminded that the headquarters are now established in Perry Street and the shop will be open from 10 a.m. each week day, AIR FORCE QUEEN GATHERING ON SATURDAY EVENING. The residence of Mr and Mrs J. A. Betts .South Road, was a scene of gaiety on Saturday* evening, when a function, which was a brilliant success, was held in furtherance of the candidature of the Air Force Queen. Miss .Jose Hosking. During the evening, Mr J. A. Betts took the opportunity to introduce the Army, Navy and Nursing Services queens, and they were greeted with hearty cheers and applause. The evening was a very happy one and was greatly- enjoyed by those present. BRING AND BUY PRODUCE. The Air Force Queen committeewish to thank sincerely those who kindly donated produce for the Bring and Buy day- on Friday last at the “Air Raid" shelter. A bring and buy day is to be held] every Friday during the campaign and donations of fruit cakes, vegetables, in J fact, produce of any kind, will be appreciated. Farmers and others thus have a splendid opportunity of supporting the Air Force Queen. GARDEN PARTY. Tomorrow full details will be given! in the “Times-Age” concerning the monster garden party to be held next] Saturday .-it the residence of Mrs W. A. Burling. Lansdown. This event prom-i ises to be a brilliant success. There will be fun for all. WASHING MACHINE. In response to many requests the washing machine being rallied by the Air Force committee, is on view in the! window of Messrs N. R. CunninghamLtd . Queen Street. ARMY QUEEN There will be a committee meeiii’.g at the Town Hall tonight at 730 o'clock. Lady committee members are asked t<> attend at 7 o'clock The marbles, darts and quoit champion.iitip will be held in the Municipal Hall commencing Wednesday night at 7 30 o'clock when it is anticipated that a most enjoyable night's fun will be obtained by those attending.
