' QUEEN CARNIVAL ■ TOWN CANDIDATE SELECTED. (‘‘Times-Age” Special.) There- was a large attendance at ; meeting held last night in the Towr Hall for the purpose of selecting thi Town candidate for the Queen Carnival. The Mayoress. Mrs A. W. Horton, presided. Three nominations were receiver Hz., Misses T. Bennett, B. Sheddeii and I. Wiggins. On a vote being taken. Miss Bettv Shedden was selected. The executive committee for the Town Queen are Mesdames Bunny, Gregor. Johnson, Judd, Shedden, Wiggins, Miss Higginson, Messrs Johnson, Carter and J. F. Thompson. Two delegates were appointed to act on the Queen Carnival Executive. The Country Queen will be selected at Morison’s Bush on Monday evening and the Native Queen will be announced as soon as the election has been held. DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL NEW PLAYING AREA. The laying of the new concrete playing area at the Greytown District , High School has been completed by the contractor. Mr H. C. Trotman. A storm water boulder pit has also been made, and conditions around the school should now be much improved, particularly in the winter. BOWLING GRADY MEDALS MATCH. Messrs Beveridge and Larsen < Martinborough) were successful in their challenge for the Grady Medals on the Greytown green last evening against Dennes and Higgison, the score being 31/15. The leads Beveridge and Dennes had a good tussle, both playing p steady game. Larsen and Higgison used different tactics. Larsen drawing with, deadly accuracy. Higgison chose to drive but was just missing. The Martinborough pair scored ten before the Greytown players opened their account Then Greytown had a run and the margin was reduced to 9 11 in Martinborough’s favour. By steady drawing and position play, Larsen increased his lead. Greytown only scored on seven heads out of the twenty played. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs 11. C Trotman are on a visit to Christchurch. Mr G. Robinson, secretary of the j Grey town branch of the Returned | Soldiers' Association, will leave shor t I ly to reside at Christchurch. Mrs N. S. McLeod has returned from a short visit to Dannevirke.
