BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Games in the Carterton Bowling Club’s championship competitions have been played as follows during the week: — m Champion singles: Harrington beat Callender after an excellent game. 17/15; Barber beat Sorensen, 22/16; A. At a further meeting of the ladies' committee in connection with the patriotic sports gathering. Paddy’s Market, etc., to be held on the Show-! grounds, Carterton. on Saturday. Feb- ■ ruary 22. Miss Berrill and Mrs Boyne convenors, presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames M. O'Reilly. M. F. King. Loftus. Deller. Robinson, Forbes, StefTcrt and Fairbrother. Reports were handed in concerning working bees which had been held at the residences of Mesdames Stewart and A. Knutson and Miss M. Lawrence, whereby the sum of 28s 6d had been collected. This will go towards the purchase of material for making goods for the stalls and for buying novelties. Mrs Nicol, of Clareville, was thank-' ed for her donation of a crochet tray ; cloth. The question of assistance from surrounding districts was discussed, and it was resolved the committee get in touch with residents with a view of creating interest and soliciting assistance in the patriotic effort. Mrs M. Ticehurst’s donation of two pairs of budgies, one pair to be raffled and the other to be disposed of by sale, were received with thanks. It was also announced that a cord of willow firewood had been donated. The meeting decided that the Scoutmaster be approached with a view to a bottle drive being arranged by members of the scout corps; and also an egg drive by Girl Guides. It was decided that a sewing bee be held at Mrs R. Forbes’ residence. Kent Street, on Wednesday afternoon next. The next meeting of the committee! was fixed for Tuesday, February 18 at! 2 o’clock. I Personal Items. Mrs Reg. Hannah, of Chester Road, j Clareville, met with an accident which i will be the means of her being laid aside for some time. It appears she ' was chasing a pet lamb from the vicinity of her homestead and slipped, breaking an ankle. She was attended by Dr. W. J. C. Wells, who ordered her removal to the Masterton Hospital. Mr R. Zillwood, one time on the staff of the Carterton Post Office, and who afterwards was attached to the Pokeno (Auckland) Post Office staff, and later joined the Fleet Air Arm force, has arrived in England. Mr J. C. Harp's many friends will regret to learn he had found it necessary to enter Croydon Hospital, Car- ; terton, for medical treatment. Mrs Liddell, of Auckland, is a visitor i to Carterton. She will leave next' week for Marton where she will spend j a few days before returning to Auck- ■ land. Pte. H. Humphries, of Hilton Road. I! Carterton. who left New Zealand with ' 1 an early Contingent, and who was bad- , ly injured by an explosion, thereby ‘ losing his sight has arrived in Welling- i 1 ton.
