CARNIVAL EFFORT

CAMPAIGN FOR AIR FORCE QUEEN SHELTER IN MAIN STREET. MANY HELPERS THANKED. The supporters of (he Air Force Queen candidate. Miss Jose Hosking. are now right on the job. After several. deep excursions into “enemy” territory by the fighting command, they have secured valuable information, to assist the Hurricanes and Spitfires in scoring direct hits on their objectives. The “air raid" shelter in fiont of the Midland Hotel is going to be an exceedingly busy spot from now 01 -- Everyone should make a point of visiting the shelter in the near future, and all are invited to bring and buy produce at the shelter. The Air Force Queen committee wishes to thank all those responsible in erecting the shelter, particularly Mr A. H. Daniell, Messrs Solon and Co. and W. Rigg and Co., staff of Messrs G. H. Perry and Co. (Messrs R. Miller and W. Large), the sawmill and joinery staff of Messrs C. E. Daniell Ltd., and the Masterton County Council. ;

PRODUCE DAY. GOOD BUSINESS REPORTED. An enthusiastic squadron "was on duty at the “air raid" shelter yesterday, where r. oring and buy produce day was held. Good business was done, and the results will be instrumental in furthering considerably the candidature of the Air Force Queen. Members of the Farmers’ Union and the Masterton A. and P. Association should remember that their queen in the campaign is the Air Force Queen, and they are requested to give her their close support. Farmers and others requiring information in Connection with the Air Force Queen campaign should ring telephone No. 2338 or 1208. RESULT OF RAFFLE. The raffle for a pair of ladies’ silk stockings was drawn last evening under police supervision. The winning ticket was No. 35. held by Miss H. Gill.

: ARMY QUEEN ST. ANDREW SOCIETY CONCERT. 11 - : In support of the Army Queen, Miss Marion Holdsworth, the St. Andrew Society is to present one of its highclass concerts on Saturday, February i 22. Concerts given by this society have earned a reputation second to : none in the district and the one ar- ‘ ranged for the Army Queen’s candidature promises to maintain the high I standard set in the past. ; Among the many contributors will be the St. Andrew Pipe Band, the St. Andrew Ladies’ Choir and the St. Andrew dancers, vocal solos will be given ( by Miss Doreen Jamieson and Mr Dili not Wales, recitations by Mrs R. Miller jand Miss Jean Douglas, piano duets by ( Mr and Mrs Miller Hope, and manyexcellent dance items by Edna Corlett, ‘ John Sexton, Jack Ryan, Nita Hearle ! and Miss Jean Lowry, who is one of the leading exponents of the art in : New Zealand. In this respect Master- ; ton is fortunate in having a dancer of ; the calibre of Miss Lowry to contri- ; bulo to local programmes. Mrs H. M, ! Morton will pkiy the accompaniments. The concert is being arranged by Mr William C. Mtmn. SHOP DAY. OTHER COMING ATTRACTIONS. The shop day held yesterday in aid of the Army Queen proved tin overwhelming success and the funds benefited considerably. A shop day will be

held every Friday from now on and in this connection gifts of meat. jam. vegetables, fruit, etc., are earnestly solicited. The marbles, quoits and dart championship will commence in the Town Hal! on Wednesday night and as the entries are simply rolling in some excellent competition is anticipated from old and young comix-litors alike. The Interhousc Association advises that a handworked sup]>er cloth with all the names of tile teams and girls who competed in the display last November in tb.eir respective team colours. is now on display in Cody’s Drapery window. The cloth will be raffled and the association advises that it will pay the winner £5 for the cloth so that it can retain it as a memento of interhouse activities.
