AN APPEAL SECOND TO NONE.

AT the beginning of next week, the Musterton branch of the I’liinket Sociely will launch its annual appeal for funds with which io carry on its excellent and indispensable community service. The method to be followed this year, as for several years past, is that of a house io house canvass for donations. Il is recognised by the officials and members of the society, as by all who are in intimate touch with the general community, lhat these are ditfienlt limos. Between the demands of t h«» public laxgatherer and those of patriotic fund collectors, heavy calls are made upon the resources of the average citizen, and not least upon those of parents with families of young children. It is hoped and believed, however, lhat it will continue to be recognised, as it long has been, that the claims of the I’liinket Society to broad-based community support arc and should be second to none. All that is asked is that people who are alive to the supreme value and importance of the work done by the society in promoting- the health and welfare of mothers and infant-, and of pre-school children should give in uecord.-inee with their means, even though these means are modest. If al! who can will give a little, the society will be supplied with the funds it needs and its work will not be hampered or restricted. It is the hope ol thinking men and women that out ot the bit ter sacrifice and strain of this war. in which free nations are literally fighting for life against barbarous and reactionary aggressors. there will come an opening of better days ami the development ol nobler standards of humanity. In the efforts tn l>e made to that end. the I’liinket Society has a most essential part to play. In the early days of the last war. the great founder of the I’liinket Society, the late Sir Trilby King, sent otit a call which carries mH less force today than it did a quarter of a century ago. In view of the wastage <>t human life due to the casual':'-- in the European War (Sir Truby King said at that timet we feel that we should nil make even greater, efforts than heretofore in trying to ensure for the rising generation the best possible conditions fir health, so lhat our children may not only survive, but ma;.- grow up thoroughly strong and capable of taking their places worthily in the battle of life.
