ILLEGAL ITALIAN USE OF BED CROSS. EVIDENCE FOUND IN PLANE FORCED DOWN. (British OfTicial Wireless) RUGBY. February 5. A broadcast over the Italian radio against an alleged "boast” in a BBC programme that an Italian Red Cross aircraft flying to Tobruk was shot down by a British fighter ha; been the subject of an inquiry. It is discovered that no such, boast or claim wa< ever made by the BBC What actually happened was that a Red Cross machine was not shot down but forced to land by a British fighter, and when the Italian aircraft was examined it was found to contain corresjxmdence. ammunition, and spare parts for th.e Bred? 20 m m. gun. It will he remembered that Britain’ already had cause io complain that, illegal use was made of the Red Cross,’ by Germany, and a warning was givensome time ago to both Germany andItaly that Red Cross aircraft or boats, cannot be given immunity if they cn-■ ter areas m which active operations are in progress.
