DEMOCRATIC LABOUR

MEETING OF MASTERTON

At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Democratic Labour Party, Mr E. J. Esler presided over a good attendance. Five new members were nominated and accepted. A trial debate took place and three speakers were selected to meet the Eketahuna branch of the party next Wednesday, the subject being: “That more attention should be paid to secondary industries rather than primary in New Zealand.”

There was a lengthy discussion on the Horne Guard and the part it may be called on to play in the future of New Zealand. The secretary was instructed to write and thank all those who had given so generously to the party's funds. A committee was set up to obtain specimen prices of articles, especially footwear and clothing, to see.if there was not some way in which the people could be protected against the everrising cost of living. It was stated that the price of a certain article, made in New Zealand, from New Zealand raw material, has risen 25 per cent in the last six months.

The president said he was much impressed with the great swing towaids the Democratic Labour Party that was evident in the many places he had visited during the holidays.
