SPORTS & GALA DAY

. ’’r — I AHIARUHE=PONATAHI MEETING j MANY FEATURES. DAY AND NIGHT SESSIONS. The annual sports meeting of the Ahiaruhe-Ponataht Sports Club is to 1 be held on the Showgrounds, Carterton. on Saturday. February 22. Programmes may be obtained from Mr L. H. Smart. P.O. Box 25. Carterton. This year the Carterton District Patriotic Committee is joining in with the Sports Club and a Paddy’s Market will be held together with many novelty events. The day will be a big one for the district.

In addition to the usual day programme viz., horse, pony and sports (•vents, the Wairarapa Interhouse Association will stage spectacular marching drill and ball games at 2.30 p.m. This is one of the most striking displays possible to see and all residents of the district should make a special effort to see the brilliantly dressed girls’ teams going through their military drill. Their display is an example for members of the Home, Guard to follow.

A very fine night programme will be staged, one of the star items of which will be dancing on the green and the young people of the district will no doubt appreciate the novelty and roll up in hundreds. Special lighting will add to the pleasure of dancing in the open. Tom Udy’s Orchestra will pro-, vide the music.

The Carterton Fire Brigade will give a demonstration at night and coloured lighting effects will make this event worth seeing. Tug of war teams representing many districts and chibs will also add interest to the night programme.

A Pipe Band and the Carterton Brass Band will be in attendance. The ever popular children’s national dancing events will be part of the night programme.
