FIRST MEETING OF YEAR.

The Masterton Plunket Society held their first meeting of the new year in the Plunket Rooms yesterday afternoon. Mrs J. Caselberg presided and there were also present Mesdames J D. O'Connor, S. 1.. P. Free. T. Jordan D. Donald. W. A, Michael. E. G. Eton. E. G. Norman, C. T. Richardson. R. F Beetham. FI. Morrison. J. M. Coradine. H. H. Daniell, N. Irwin. T. F. Watson P. Nathan. T. W Wardell. C. A. Carmine. .1. James. A. F. Stewart. Sortain Smith and A. 11. Falloon. Apologies were received from Mrs R. C. Drummond and Mrs J. C. Broad.
A motion of sympathy was passed with Sir William Perry and family in the death of Lady Perry. As a mark of respect members stood in silence. The president referred to the great interest Lady Perry had always taken in the Plunket Society as a life member, and a vice president, from the time of its inception in Masterton right up to the time of her death. A circular was received from the Dominion Council relative to the fuller supervision of the pre-school' child. To further this important work and effect an improvement in the health and nutrition of the children the first Tuesday of every month has been set aside for the examination at the rooms of children from 1). to 5 years of age. A further circular was received from the Council advising branches that the proposed rise in salaries of Plunket and Karitane nurses had been confirmed.
A circular from the Council asked for information with regard to plans made in the event of any emergency arising in order that the medical and nursing advisers to the Council might make suitable suggestions. It was reported that the matter was under consideration. A letter was received from Mrs Ericson resigning her seat on the committee owing to 1101' leaving the district. The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs Ericson, accepting the resignation with regret and expressing appreciation of her valuable work on the committee.
T)?.g hon. treasurer presented accounts for December and January amounting to £142 12s Id. which were passed. Final arrangements were made for the house-to-house appeal, and books were distributed to the members and friends collecting. It was decided to open the Plunket rest room on the Showgrounds as usual on February 18 and 19. A nurse and members of the committee will be in attendance. A vote of thanks and appreciation was passed to Mrs Sellar for a parcel of cot covers, and to Mrs Greig for knitted infant garments.
