GREATHEAD TENNIS CUP

NIREAHA TO COMPETE

The Nireaha Tennis Club has decided to compete in the Greathec.d Cup fixtures with the Hastwclls and Kaiparoro teams.

Nireaha’s first game will take place next weekend and a team will bo picked from the following players: — .Misses Zora Hcldaway. N. Drysdale. I. Pryde. A. Cooper. B. Drysday. Mrs G. Drysdale. Messrs E. Neiderer. R. Petersen. L. Washington. D. Payne. C. Hercock. R. Lawrence and C. H. Mills. If this match is a home game players will be expected to supply a plate and to be at the courts at 1! a.m. sharp.

HOME GUARD

NIREAHA OFFICERS

The first parade of the Nireaha Home Guard will lake place on Monday evening, February 10.

The following officers have been elected in connection with the Home Guard:—Platoon Commanders, A. C-. Golder. J. Burr and F. C. Mason; sergeants. J. Brown. C. Bowyer and T. Handcock: section leaders. II Nordell. G. Drysdale. W. Milne. R. Lawrence. S. Davis. W. Drysdale. C. Bailey. L. Rorsetter and J. L. Daysh.

The enlistments so far have reached fifty andvhis number is expected to be increased during the next week.

BOWLING SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT. A tournament held during the weekend at the local club’s green was voted by visitors and local players a great success. The tournament (the first one held by the club) was organised and capably conducted by Messrs Payne. Tolley and Richardson (the local club’s match committee), these members keeping the programme running like clockwork. Mr Tom Edge capably controlled the five games which were played during the day. Mr N. Williams, president, who welcomed the visiting rinks from Pahiatua. Dannevirke. Woodville and Carterton. said that the tournament would be a great experience for the twenty odd first year members of the Eketahuna Clubs. At the end of the day’s play he presented the winning Pahiatua C rink (Boyens s' with a trophy.

'Che green was in good playing order and although the wind made playing conditions tricky, some very interesting games were witnessed during the day. During the afternoon the ladies served afternoon tea.
