RED CROSS
ACTIVITIES OF MASTERTON SUB=CENTRE MEETING LAST EVENING. VARIOUS MATTERS DISCUSSED. A meeting of the Masterton SubCentre of the Red Cross Society was held last night, Mrs. Tolhurst presiding. In reference to the matter of an application to Headquarters for a refund for 21 surgeons’ gowns supplied to Wellington to meet an emergency call, the secretary was instructed to write and ask that this refund be made in material instead of money on account of the difficulty in procuring suitable material to replace the gowns. A letter from the Wairarapa Centre asking that five delegates be appointed from the sub-centre to attend a meeting on February 25 was read. 'The centre had arranged for a member of the surgical dressing committee from Wellington to address a meeting in Masterton and to give information as to the requirements in this branch of Red Cross work.
The following delegates were ap-! pointed:—Mesdames Stewart, Daniell. Tolhurst and McKenzie. One other is j to be nominated by the convenors of I the surgical supply group. A letter was received from Mrs ! Brenkley tendering his resignation as 1 convenor of the sewing group owing t<>! her being fully occupied with other 1 duties. It was agreed to write to Mrs. j Brenkley and thank her for the goner- ■ ous support she had given to the sew- 1 ing group.
Miss Wiggins, one of the society's! staunchest supporters, lias now been 1 moved to Akaroa and it was decided i that she be written to and thanked for. all she had done for the Society and, also that the Akaroa Red Cross be ad-! vised to get in touch with her. Regarding a letter sent through the centre to headquarters on November 12! concering the expense entailed in connection with the suggested transport! service uniforms; as no reply had been! received it was decided to again write to headquarters about the matter. The society’s representative on the! Patriotic Committee. Mrs. Garland j asked that the meeting express anl opinion concerning the sending of at monthly hamper to the AA. Club in ! Wellington. It was decided that this i matter was outside the sphere of Red; Cross activities.
The Sewing Group, it was reported would restart its weekly meeting beginning on Friday in the Red Cross room in Park Street. From now onwards the Rod Cross room would be (.pen on .Mondays, Wednesdays am! Fridays from 10.30 a.in. to 4.30 p.m.
The Knitting Group decided not to restart its meeting until the Queen Carnival was finished, and in the meantime to concentrate on the making and collecting of goods for surprise packets, fled Cross knitters requiring wool to knit in the meantime can obtain it from the Red Cross room or from Mrs. Flannery, Cole Street.
