STATE THEATRE
“WUTHERING HEIGHTS." I 1 The sensational Bronte novel in pic- | ture form will be finally shown to- ! night. "THE SAINT TAKES OVER." i With a thrilling story of mystery and i adventure as its basis. R.K.O. Radio's j "The Saint Takes Over." reveals itself | as the best of the filmic exploits of the ! noted Leslie Charteris character. It I will be shown tomorrow night at the i State Theatre. As in previous offer- : Ings. George Sanders plays the suave i and debonair "Saint" whose activities i baffle both the police and the leading ■ crooks of two continents, while JonaI than Hale .again portrays Inspector . Fcrnak of the New York Police DeI partment. and Wendy Barrie a mystery ■ girl. The plot of the new film, which, marks the fifth time The Saint has come to the screen, deals with an ingenious "frame-up" contrived to discredit Fernak and end his embarrassing investigation of a criminal ring. • The Saint learns the identity of the | members of the ring, and with Fernack i sets about the difficult task of forcing | a confession that will clear the police; I officer. Unfortunately, a mysterious I killer reaches several of the crooks in I I turn just before The Saint and Fer-i Inack can talk to them. Fearing the) others will also be slain before they 1 have a chance to restore Fernack's, good name for him. The Saint tries to! intercept the killer. How he succeeds,; and the dramatic outcome of his efforts I
makes "The Saint Takes Over" a thor-' oughly exciting piece of film fare and i one that adds new stature to its prin-; cipal actors. Sanders himself does) brilliantly as the resourceful Robinj Hood, and Halo and Miss Barrie turn! in splendid performances, as do P;.ulj Guiltoyle. Morgan Conway. Cyrus W. 1 Kendall. Robert Keane, Pierre Wat-; kin and James Burke. Jack Hively’s; adroit direction keeps the production! by. Howard Benedict moving at full; speed, and with the clover screen play! by Lynn Root and Frank Senton. J makes the film a real treat.
