ACTIVITIES IN .MASTERTON i REVIEWED MASTERTON WOMEN'S COMMITTEE. RECORD OF ACHIEVEMENT. • ' At the commencement of another! year of patriotic work it may be oppor-l tunc to review in brief the work done) by the Masterton Women's Patriotic, Committee since its inception, states! Mrs G. T. O'Hara Smith, hon. seeretaiw of the committee. This committee was set up at the in-; stance of the Mayor and Mayoress by! the appointment of one representative! of each women's social organisation in! Masterton and Jias the advantage of a! wide circle of activity in extending its! patriotic work should occasion arise. ; During the past eight months since! its formation the committee has been) responsible for the following:—
In June 120 parcels were packed and; forwarded overseas. These parcels! were bought out of moneys subscribed j and goods donated by the public. ) In September 250 Christmas parcels j were packed and sent overseas. The) committee organised a house to house; collection for funds for the parchase of! these parcels to which the public res-i ponded generously and £262 1-ls l()d{ was collected. Out of this £l3O 9s 9dj was spent and this week the commit-'
tee is packing a further 250 parcels purchased out of funds still in hand, i The committee would like to thank those firms who have given cases and Mr! Hatch who on each occasion has pack-’ cd these parcels in a very expert man-i ner. The committee would also like to thank members of the League of Mothers, Women's Institutes and private individuals who have anonymous-! ly left parcels, contributions towards parcels, cakes, tins of biscuits, shortbread, barlev sugar and packs of cards, etc., at the Rest Room. These have been packed with the parcels
A sum of £l9 16 s was received from the raffling of a cloth, two feather pillows and a baby's outfit kindly donated by Mrs Torrence Mrs Him', and the Misses Howard and ,L>ne. re--pectively.
