The death occurred at Pukuru t.Otorohanga district) recently of Mr Benjamin Harold Buddcn. who was the son of the late Mr Benjamin Budden. and was born in 1882. at Masterton. where the family resided till 1892. removing to Pahiatua and then on toj ■ Pukuru.
Wing-Commander S. Wallingford, New Zealand liaison officer at the Air Ministry in London, will return to New Zealand shortly for duty at Air Force headquarters. Succeeding him as liaison officer will be Squadron-Leader F. R. Newell, who has worked with WingCommander Wallingford as assistant liaison officer for the past 18 months. There was a very large attendance at the funeral yesterday of the late Miss M. I. Strang, of Masterton. The, Rev. John Davie officiated at the resi-l dence and at the graveside. Among! the many beautiful flora! tributes were; wreaths from the manager and staff of j Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and the Glad- 1 stone School. Messrs J. B. Lawrence. J. P. Johnston, P. Cooper, E. Mason. J. Jack and D. Thompson acted as pallbearers.
The leader of the National Party. Mr Holland, spent a busy day at Wanganui yesterday attending many gatherings. In the morning he gave an address at Taihape and in the afternoon
he opened the new premises of the
New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Company at Marton. Last night he addressed a largely-attended meeting at Marion and today he will attend and speak at the Feilding Show and later at Palmerston North.
An indication that he did not propose to contest the Hastings mayoralty has been given by the sitting mayor, Mr Maddison, who has held office for 15 years. He became a borough councillor in 1921. and mayor in December of 1922, holding office till 1929. He returned to the office four years later, and has since remained mayor. It is Mr Maddison’s intention in future to devote most of his time to the affairs of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, of which he is chairman, and he will continue as a member of the Manpower Committee.
