GUN DOG CLUB
TRIALS AT LAKE RESERVE. t"Times-A£e" Special.) The residents of Featherston and district are no doubt looking forward to the gun dog trials to be held at the Lake Reserve on Sunday next. The outing, the first to be held this year by the Wairarapa Gun Dog Club, will be in the nature of a picnic. All ‘.lie crack dogs of the Wellington and Wairarap;. provinces will be there to gam experience especially in open lake conditions or hard-cover work Mr A. McIver < Featherston) a leading figure in Wairarapa Gun Dog Club activities, has the arrangements well in hand with a strong local committee, and an enjoyable time seems assured, A special item on the programme is an event for Featherston dogs only, and entries in this class will come forward from al! breeds and types of dogs, the owners of which will manifest great interest in the various performances, particularly as the paramount purpose of any dog is to find the game.
RAINFALL RECORD FIGURES FOR JANUARY. During January there were twelve wet days, the total rainfall being 3.97 inches. The maximum fall was 1.24 inches on January 21. In January. 1940. 5.12 inches of rain were registered, there having been 11 wet days. Vital Statistics. There were 7 births, one marriage and no deaths recorded in Featherston in January. Personal Items. The Rev. T. V. Pearson, priest-in-charge of St. John's parish, arrived today and will remain until a vicar is' appointed by the Bishop. Mr Vauticr has been appointed to the stall of the Featherston District High School in succession of Mr Slocomb. who has been transferred to Palmerston North. Evacuee Accommodation. A house to house census, with a view to ascertaining what accommodation would be available for evacuees in the event of invasion or a major| disaster, is to be made this month. Swimming Carnival Postponed. Owing to the rough weather the swimming carnival, which was to have, been held last evening, had to be 1 postponed. Engagement. The engagement is announced of Vera, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Jury. Featherston, to Kenneth, only son of Mr and Mrs A. A. Dunean. Wellington.
