SUMMER DAYS

ALL DAY BEAUTY. A ROUTINE TO FOLLOW. j A day at the beach or in the bush lean mean as much beauty preparation !as a ball—but the finished effect is very different. At a ball, the aim very often is to look exotic, a fragile hot-house flower: out of doors the aim should be to look natural. Make-up should not be obvious. Some say it is better taste to wear none, but it needs a strong mind and great beauty to follow that advice. No. make-up your face, but do it carefully. Ever see a natural sun-flush clashing with a different hue in rougeHorrible! Outdoor colouring should be that which blends best with your natural colouring, and rouge should not be too heavy. Wear a bright lipstick, one of the kind which stays put as long as possible. Wear a powder which matches your skin, not cne which is too light. You will probably need a darker make-up as the season goes on and you begin to acquire a natural tan. Adopt a simple hair-style for outdoor, so that after it has been dampened by the sea or blown in the wind you will find it easy to comb it back into place. Take the necessary repair kit for the face, but don't renovate the complexion too often and too obviously in public. Elbows and Knees. The real work should be done well beforehand; in fact, it is a good idea to have a thorough summer overhaul. For instance, do your elbows and knees bear close inspection? Elbows in the winter-time often lake on a roughened, reddened appearance. You don't see your elbows unless you look at them specially, so hold them up to a mirror and study them now. Most people would be highly offended at the suggestion that their elbows milit sometimes look grimy, but it is by no means impossible even in the ease of the cleanest person. Brush them with a nailbrush and good soap regularly. Occasionally take a shaving brush and plenty of soapy lather to get into all the tiny crevices. Then before going to bed at night, rub cream into your elbows to keep them soft. Il's such a pity to let elbows grow roughened and ugly, and so easy to prevent it. Knees come into the limelight when holiday p.drb is worn. Are they too thin, or t<>.> fat? Either can be ugly. Massage them by pinching them lightly if they tire too thin; massage them firmly and knead them well if they are too fat. A Good Pedicure. Give yourself a good pedicure. Summer time means sandals. If your feet are really unbraujifui. wear the kind which cover as much as possible. Look io your toenails Cut and file them regularly, straight across the tup. Push back the dead cuticle as with fingernails. Then if they are reasonably: well-shaped toenails, wear a bright. varnish to match your frock. But n ! they're not. please draw as little mien-] turn to them as pi able. , Heels and Ankles. The back of the heels and ankh s ; should also come in for special attention. Often in winter the heels become roughened and cracked at the back and the same remedies cun be applied as for elbows. There's more beauty work to be done on return from a day's picnic. If possible. it’s an excellent idea in summer • to arrange the weekls hair-set for M. nday—.aves that -ticl.y, .- alt-wul.-r feeling which is so often a legacy of a i pleasant week-end. C'r<-afn the face- well at night before going to bed. The wind and the sun may have- had a ■.•oughenitig effect ms the skin, so leave S'lfflr rrram on all’ night. !> > the rime for the hands, acd rub a little aimopii >r Hot
