PLUM & APPLE CHUTNEY

MAKE IT THIS WAY.

Take 21bs. plums. Jib. chopped apple, ’lb. grated carrot. Alb. seedless raisins. 2 or 3 medium onions, 1 pint strong vinegar, 1 to 1 lb. brown sugar, 2ozs. salt, cayenne pepper or chillies, | teaspoonful each of ground cloves and allspice.

Wash and stone the plums and put them into a saucepan with the chopped apple and grated carrot. Put the raisins and onions through a mincer, add them and also the vinegar, and simmer all until tender. Then add the sugar, salt and spices and continue the cooking until the mixture is thick and soft, stirring almost constantly with a wooden spoon. Put into hot jars and cover. A little finely chopped garlic may be added if the flavour is liked.
