BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age" Special.) Saturday was an ideal day for bowling and further games in the Club rink matches were played. Afternoon tea was presided over by Mrs Eagle and her daughter. The following are the results: Pankhurst, Riggs Simmonds <s> beat Denhard. Harris, Harrington (s), 20 15; . Kilmister. Beaven. A rink of bowlers representing the Carterton Post and Telegraph Department will take part in the Public Service tournament on Thursday next at Wellington. BRIDE TO BE HONOURED BY PARKVALE RESIDENTS. The Parkvale Hall was crowded on Saturday night when the residents of Farkvale and district tendered a “parcel evening" and dance to Miss Jean Edwards, who is to be married this week. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs. V. J. Ashton and Mr. G. Harding (Masterton), an extra being played by Miss M. Herrick. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs. V. J. Ashton and C. Jensen. Much appreciated songs were given by Mr. A. Kay, who played his own accompaniments on the guitar. At an appropriate interval. Mr E. T. Bliss called upon Miss Edwards to open the many gift parcels, which she did j amid applause. Mr. W. Ward, on behalf of Miss Ed- ■ wards thanked everyone for the enjoyable gathering provided on their behalf and for the gifts to Miss Edwards. The functions concluded with the singing of the National Anthem and “Auld Lang Syne.”

WOMEN’S DIVISION SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. The Carterton Branch of the Womens Division of the Farmers’ Union held a very successful shop day in Krahagen's Buildings on Friday last, the proceeds of which are to go forward a Rest Home, that the N.Z. Executive of the W.D.F.U. intend building in Palmerston North. This home is for the use of country women from any part of New Zealand who should at any time be visiting Palmerston North. Every branch in New Zealand is contributing toward the cost ‘of providing this home. Personal Items. Mesdames A. Clark and B. Archer accompanied by Misses Archer and Jensen, have returned from a holiday spent at Waikanae Beach. Mr Joe Fitzgerald who met with a serious accident at football at the end of last season and who has been again in hospital, has returned to his home. Mr J. Manley, who has been in the employment of Printers Limited since the establishment of that firm, has received notice to go into camp on February 16. He has joined up with the Air Force and will go to Weraroa for his initial training. At present he is on his annual holiday. Mr and Mrs W. Martin, of Rexwood Street, have returned from a holiday spent in Dunedin. Mrs Fenwick, of Gisborne, is staying with Mrs Fenwick’s parents, Mr and Mrs Geo. A. Vincent. Mr. Tom Harp, of Cartertop, has been appointed relieving teacher.at the Gladstone School. He will be assisted by Miss Anker of Greytown. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Steven, and family, who have been staying at Paraparaumu Beach, have returned to Carterton. Mrs T. Mellish. who spent a month’s! holiday in Auckland, after visiting! Stratford, has returned home. Swimming. The weekly night competition of the ' Carterton Swimming Club will take place at the Borough Baths tonight.! Among the events will be the first dis- > tance of the 220 yards race for the Los i Sorensen Cup.
