AIR OFFENSIVE
BRITISH DAY & NIGHT ATTACKS ON NAZI BASES IN FRANCE. U-BOAT PORTS BOMBED. i The R.A.F. has carried out extensive patrols over tne straits or . Dover, and part of occupied France a 8.8. C. broadcast states. Very few enemy aircraft were seen, but three of the small number sighted were destroyed. All were fighters. A small force of bombers attacked the port of Boulogne, the German aerodrome at Ostend, and another elsewhere. One British fighter is missing. A Spitfire pilot glided over 80 miles when his engine failed over Northern France, and reached his base almost at the end of his glide. Both the pilot and his machcine were in the air again a few hours later. The R.A.F. yesterday followed up night attacks on German bases in France with daylight attacks by fighters who were accompanied in one instance by a small force of bombers. On Saturday night bombing attacks were made on Boulogne and Ostend and earlier in the night aircraft of the Coastal Command attacked the enemy submarine base at Brest, on the Bay of Biscay. Two British aircraft are reported missing. LITTLE ENEMY ACTIVITY. Raids yesterday by single German aircraft in East Anglia did little damage and caused no casualties. Yesterday afternoon some houses and shops were damaged and some persons were injured in two places on the coast of Kent. NO NIGHT RAIDS ON BRITAIN (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) RUGBY. February 2. After a break of one night during the past week, an Air Ministry and Home Security communique issued this morning, dealing with enemy activity by night, again states: ’ There is nothing to report.” ATTACK ON BREST RECONNAISSANCE FLIGHTS I IN BAD WEATHER. Last night's R.A.F. activities arc j reported in an Air Ministry communique which states that on Saturday night a small force of Coastal Command aircraft attacked the docks at Brest. During yesterday, despite unfavourable weather conditions, patrols and reconnaissance flights were carried out. Two of our aircraft are missing gent's brother, Mr A. Blandford.
