Fatally Wounded. John Trinnan Campbell, single, aged 21, of Lyalldale. South Canterbury, employed by his father. Mr. W. Campbell, on a farm, was found in a shed fatally wounded, on Saturday. Theft} was a bullet wound in the centre of his forehead, and a .22 calibre rifle was lying alongside. McGuinness’s "Scout" was the winner of the Hunters' Competition and the Ladies' Hunter Class (ridden by Miss Joan McGuinness) at the Horowhenua A. and P. Show on Saturday. Miss Joan McGuinness, who is 13 years of age. also won the class for the best lady rider and that for children’s riding. This young horsewoman has more than 60 riding awards to her credit. She gained her first success in the Masterton show ring at the early' age of four and a half years.

Dewar Shield Meeting. The first Dewar Shield meeting of tne season which was held by the Wellington Athletic Centre at Hataitai Park on Saturday afternoon resulted in the Kiwi Club scoring 7 points for the sh eld, Wellington 61, Hutt 1. Olympic I and Varsity 0. Wellington hold the shield from last season. Thej winners of the shield will be known' after a second meeting, which will in-j elude events which were not on Sat-| urday's programme.
