SALE AT HASTINGS. SOUTHDOWN PRICES IMPRESSIVE. i 'By Telegraph—Press Association.' HASTINGS. January 31. Better prices were secured for flock Southdowns today than for the flock Romneys yesterday at the Hawke's Bay ram fair. Prices today were in advance of those of last year, and under a keen demand the market was well met. Entries numbered 2178 on account of Hawke’s Bay. Wairarapa ami Feilding breeders, most sales going to Hawke’s Bay farmers. Top price was 12jgns. for two separat entries, one on account of W. J. Gimblott. Ngatarnwa. and purchased, by M. Glazebrook. Hastings, and the i other on account of C. R. Edgecombe. | Hatuma. and bought by O. Nilsson. ! The 10-guinea mark was frequently I reached and a good percentage realised \ Bgns. Two pens of Dorse; Horns realised j from Bgns. to IHgns., all being purchased by W. Wall. Gisborne. Little inquiry was shown for a few i pens of Ryelands. Sixteen Romney and 36 Southdown i stud rams met with a steady demand.! The top price for the Romneys was 6.5 gns.. paid by C. R. Edgecombe. Hatuma, for a shearling ram offered on account of W. S. R. Dick, Marton. For Southdowns the best price was f>sgns for a shearling ram bought by the Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Wanganui. as agents, from a line ulTered [ on account W. J. Gimblott.
