The men's division of the St. John Ambulance had ofl'ered to give every assistance if required. but men for stretcher bearer duties were required. He suggested that men not already detailed for special duties could be formed into squads for that purpose. It was decided to ask the authorities to reconsider the ruling regarding the provision ot first aid equipment in dressing stations other than at public hospitals and to communicate with the St. John Ambulance Brigade and ascertain the position in regard to stretcher bearers. Correspondence was read regarding the control of communications and the protection of vital points in the event of att emergency. The Wairarnpa R.S.A. advised that Mrs C. E. It was decided to ask all local bodies to make a survey of the accommodation available by the end of February. The minutes of the meeting read by Mr O'Hara Smith contained no reference to the cost of the survey.
Mr Jordan, who was present at the meeting, said he had raised the question of the cost involved in making the survey and the meeting had decided that the cost would be borne by the whole of the local bodies concerned, including Wellington city.
It was decided to point out the omission of this decision from the minutes.
Arising out of a report presented by the Superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade. Mr T. B. Clark, on the motion of Mr J. C. D. Mackley. it was decided to write to Mr Girling Butcher. Inspector of Fire Brigades, pointing out that it was desirable that lire boards should be protected under the emergency regulations if brigades attended tires beyond the board’s area.
