Middle Park Plate. \ Monetary is likely to be a solid favourite for the Middle Park Plate at Riccarton on Saturday, and. as he has gone on the right way since his successful trip to Trentham. where he won a double. Monetary should sec his task through in the right way. Mr. W. A. White, owner of Monetary, won the race in 1935 with Emissary, then a three-year-old. Monetary will carry a full penalty of 141 b, bringing his weight to Bst. 91b. The last two-year-old to carry a similar weight successfully was Wild Chase, in 1936. Mr. G. R. Macdonald has Pleading and Bird of Prey in the Middle Park Plate, while Pleading is also in the Craven Plate and Bird of Prey in the Lyttelton Plate. Bird of Prey looks the pick of the field for the handicap race, and that may be her mission. Pleading may drop out of the Craven Plate and contest the Middle Park,
Trench Fight and Wardress, When they met for the first and only time this season in the- Tinwald Handicap al Ashburton two months ago. Trench Fight won well under 8.1. and Wardress, conceding 111 b., was third. Trench Fight went on to win the Waikouaiti Cup. and both scored at Trentham. In the Canterbury Mid-Summer Handicap. Trench Fight is asked to concede Wardress 31b.. so that the latter, in spite of her £7OO stake in the Wellington Racing Chib Handicap, comes in a stone better for their second meeting Mrs. J. Campbell, trainer of Wardress, won the MidSummer Handicap a vear ago with Willie Win. Tried over Hurdles. Ryotown has boon tried out over the standard hurdles lately, the object being to see whether ho will be more solid when raced on the flat. But Ryetown Mid hurdling are not as one, as so far he is making a poor fist of it. The Lord Warden gelding should be able to jump well enough, as ho is a half-brother to Giggloswick and Polydora.
The Air Force Handicap nt the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting al Hutt Park yesterday was won by Gold Bar after a brilliant performance. Immediately the field was despatched. Gold Bar ran to the front and pacing in an effortless manner soon established a commanding load from the rest of the field, which was headed bv Fremont. Salalon. Three Tens, and Smile Again. There was little change in this order throughout the whole journey, Gold Bar. who was cased up over the last 100 yards, winning by 36 yards from Zincali. who outstayed Fremont in the run home. Mongolian was fourth. Having regard to the heavy wind with which the horses had to contend. Gold Bar's time. 4.21 2-5. was ;m cxcej.tionally good effort.
