January 29. 1 The Addington stock market drew average entries today, except in store lambs. Values generally were maintained. but light stock met with a slow sale. The store lamb entry exceeded 15.000

Rape lambs maintained recent i rates. Medium lambs were down Is. a I head, and poorer sorts were down by i Is. 6d. Best rape lambs made from 17s. j to 19s. 6c.. medium to good 14s. to 165.. i backward down to 7s. The fat lamb entry or 2500 mainlv consisted of medium sorts, but there [ were some outstanding lines. The sale was brisk throughout. Best lambs, up to 361 b.. made Bid. (export rates), and the next class S l-Bd. Export buyers competed freely. The fat sheep entry numbered 4000. j Good wethers were forward, and the j general quality of the entry was im- | proved. The market was uneven, but prices all over remained unchanged I except for prime wethers, which drop--ped slightly because of the bigger supply. Export buyers were in the mar-

ket for ewes, paying up to 15s. for best medium sorts. Best wethers sold at 375. 4d„ prime 295. to 325.. medium weights 265. to 28s. 6d„ light and ordinary to 235.; good ewes 21s. to 235.. tops to 245. Iod.. medium 17s. to 205.. ordinary 13s. 6d.. light from 9s. The fat cattle numbered 447. as against 567 last week. A slight recovery was shown for better beef, but the sale generally was erratic. Prime medium weights improved by 10s.. but other values were unchanged. Toward the end of the sale it was difficult to quit poorer sorts. Best beef sold up to 40s. a hundred pounds, good at 355. to 375. 6d.. ordinary down to 325., and rough to 275. 6d. Prime steers made £l4 to £l6 10s.. with tops to £l7 12s. 6d„ ordinary £9 to £l2. light to £8 10s.; best heifers £l2 2s. 6d.. other good sorts £9 10s. to £lO 155.. medium £7 10s. to £9; prime cows £7 10s. to £9 10s.. ordinary from £6. light down to £4 15s. The fat pig entry was smaller, but sufficient for requirements. Values were 3s. to 4s. better early in the sale, but there was a decline to last week’s rates over the last two races. Average prices a pound were, pork 6’d. to 7].d., bacon 61d. to 7d.

MASTERTON SALE

SHEEP IMPROVE IN VALUE. A TOTAL CLEARANCE OF ENTRY. The Associated .Auctioneers report as follows on their weekly Masterton sale held yesterday. A large entry of all classes of sheep in excess of advertised numbers came forward, and were offered to a large and representative attendance of buyers. Competition throughout was keen, and all classes of sheep, especially black face, good white face wether lambs and two and four-tooth wethers, showed an improvement in value. A total clearance was effected under the hammer, and we report a most satisfactory sale. The following list of principal sales will indicate values:—

Fat sheep: Heavy fat wethers, 245,; fat wethers, 21s. 6d. to 235.; medium ewes. 205.; two-tooth ewes, 255.; fat S.D. ewes. 14s. Cd.; fat lambs, 16s. Id. to 18s. 6u.

Store sheep: Woolly wether lambs, 145.. 14s. 10d. to 15s. lid.; medium woolly lambs. 10s. t>d. tn 12s. 3d.; good shorn wether lambs. 14s. (kt; medium shorn ditto, !2s. 6d. to 13s, 3d.; small ditto, Bs. Gd. to 10s. 4d.; cull lambs, 6s. 6d. to 7s. Gd.; shorn ewe lambs. 155.; woolly ewe lambs, 14s. Id. to 14s. Gd.; S.D. ram lambs, 17s. 6d. to 21s.
