Scott, a New Zealander, who is managing-editor of the newspaper "Panama American.” escaped to American soil after being arrested by the Panama secret police. A later message says that Scott has been handed over to the Panama authorities, who are holding him for deportation to Jamaica or New Zealand. A recent report* stated that Scott, who is a well-known New Zealand journalist, had been warned by Senor Arnolfo Arias, the newly-elected president of Panama, that his conduct was not sufficiently "neutral” because he supplied to the manager of a local beer garden a news bulletin announcing an English victory over the Italian navy. Scott, is to be deported on the alleged ground that he accused the president of the Panama Republic, Senhor Arias, of sympathies with the Totalitarian Powers.
