Concert Postponed.
The concert which, was to have been held in Queen Street. Masterton. last night in aid of the Army Queen had to be postponed on account of the tinfa voura b 1 c wea t her. Paddi’s Dance Band. The large number of patrons at the Municipal Hail last night greatly enjoyed the programme of dance music provided by. Lauri Paddi’s dance band. The playing of the band was a revelation. and much appreciated, particularly the special features. Masterton Show Trophy. Another trophy not shown in the Masterton A. and P. Show schedule has been donated by Mr G. Shaw. It is a three-piece lea service for most points in. fat cattle classes, to be won twice in succession or any three times. Mr. W. J. Gimbletl. Hastings, will judge the open Southdown classes. Juvenile Offenders. A youth, just under 17 years of ago. appeared before the Children’s Court at Masterton this morning on a charge of recklessly driving a motor car in Perry Street on December 26. Defendant was admonished and fined 10s. Two other juveniles who faced charges of theft were admonished and discharged. Mr. H. P, Lawry. S.M.. presided. New Zealand Finances.
Details of revenue and expenditure of the ordinary revenue account of the Consolidated Fund for the first nine months of the current financial year were released at Dunedin last night by the Minister of Finance, Mr Nash. “The revenue for the period,” Mr. Nash said, “totalled £21,930,000, compared with £22,309,000 for the first nine months of last year, and expenditure amounted to £23.660,000. compared with £26,240.000. Alleged Conversion of Car.
Two brothers who are alleged to have taken a car from a Wellington city street and to have allowed it to go over a bank at Melrose a few hours later, appeared in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday and wore sent to the Supreme Court for trial at the sessions opening on Monday. They are Gordon Frederick Millar, motor driver, aged 28. and David Hugh Millar, clerk, aged 37. They denied joint charges of converting to their own use a motor car valued at £lOO and of doing wilful damage to the ci|r.
Use as Hospital Must Cease. The Wellington Education Board, at its monthly meeting yesterday, decided to notify the Wellington Hospital Board that its use of the old Newtown School building for temporary hospital purposes must cease at the end of next month. The Education Board had previously’ informed the hospital board that the building would have to bo vacated by January 31. The secretary of the hospital board wrote yesterday, stating that the building would be vacated as soon as possible.
Historic Relics. Three articles of historic interest are being left in New Zealand by the Gov-ernor-General, Viscount Galway, who is soon to return to England. The first, the figurehead of Captain Cook's ship, the Resolution, is to go to the Dominion Museum: the other two, a portrait of Captain Charles Clerke. R.N., painted by Nathaniel Dance, and an inkstand made from three of the hooves of the famous racehorse Carbine, are to remain in Government House. An Error of Law. Tb.e Wellington Education Board at its monthly meeting yesterday received legal advice to the effect that the action of its officers in paying into the Public .Account the £51.000 received from the Wellington City Council for the board's Mercer Street property was an error of law. for which the officers responsible for tile payment might possibly be held legally responsible to the board, and that the money would not be recoverable if the Education Department liked to make use of the technical defences open to it.
