British Talent was quickly in the lead in the Ralph Handicap at the Auckland meeting yesterday, and made a great attempt to win all the way. bu\ after being eight lengths clear of the field at the six furlongs, was just shaded at the end by Cornish, with Foxsen close up third and Greek Queen almost in line. The pace set by British Talent kept the rest scratching, Arvakur and Gay Rosette being his nearest attendants along the back. Cornish got a fine run through on the rails to head British Talent at the distance, but the latter hung, on to bo beaten only by a neck, with Foxsen the same distance away. Greek Queen was favourite. but was not good enough. Gay Roselle disappointed.
Though drawing the outside position and carrying the steadier of 10.1 Pirate King came home with a great rattle to impressively win the Devonport Handicap at the Auckland mooting yesterday from Bronwen and Orate. The last-named gave some trouble at the start and was put wide out, but with a rare turn of speed he quickly hit the front to lead to well inside the distance, where Bronwen headed him only to be defeated by Pirate King. Aero King, always in the first three faded to fourth.
