A. | Copeland i The treasurer's statement showed a I credit balance in the District Fund Acj count of £597 9s 6d. and a credit bal- ’ ancc in the Gas Works Account el £544 ; 6s - I Accounts amounting to £ 1037 7s 9d i (General Account' and £3Ol 6s 4d '.Gasworks Account’ were passed for I payment. Messrs. Hart ami Tucker, solicitors, wrote on behalf of Mr. W. S. King, j offering to transfer to the council free !of charge a piece of land a chain wide j for a road between Broadway and ' Pembroke Street, the council to form I the street. j It was decided that negotiations in connection with securing other pro- | perty in the vicinity be left to the Works C’lmmittee which will report to a future meeting. Mr King was thanked for his very generous offer and he is to be asked to leave his oiler open until arrangements had been made with the other landowners. I The Department of Health wrote sugi gesting that the council take action I against the Wairarapa Ice Cream Co. I for not obtaining or attempting to take j out a licence for the sale of ice cream at the Carterton Show. It was resolvied that the company be notified that i the license should be paid pending ■ further proceedings. i The secretary of the Wairarapa P. < and A. Society wrote thanking the council for a rebate on its water rates for the showgrounds. j The Health Officer, Mr Trueman, forj warded his quarterly report. He rej ported a clean bill of health for the i borough and congratulated the town up«m its healthy condition, this being the first time since 1936. Samples of milk, sausages and the town’s water supply had been taken and all were satisfactory. Air. H. J. Brown wrote asking for a I reduction of water rate owing to the I fact that he was now using his own ; well supply for his bacon factory. The request was granted provided the supply of water from the town service was only used for household purposes and that he removed the pipes connected with his factory. The Carterton Swimming Club were granted the free use of the baths for competitions during the season, provided the hours set down by the Borough Council were not interfered with. The'club thanked the council for past favours which had been greatly appreciated. An application by Messrs. Cotter and Oakley for an ordinary water service to be laid on to their properly al Chester Road. Clareville. was refused. Mr. J. Hawken wrote complaining about the dirty state of the water on a certain date. .After discussion, the letter was received. The council decided that in future all dead ends to the water service in the borough be Hushed out at least once a month and that where possible the fire hydrant be used. Permission was granted Messrs Wakelin Bros.. Ltd. flourmillers, to erect an extra storage room for wheat at the mil! The reports of the Overseer. Work-i Committee.
