STAND AT DERNA
NOT AFFECTING BRITISH ' ADVANCE STEADY WESTWARD THRUST. BRITISH TROOPS ENTER ABYSSINIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—O’p.vrigm • LONDON. January 28. The Italians in Derna are still holding out. Artillery in this area is intermittently shelling the road from Tobruk and the British guns are replying, but are moving steadily westward. The coastal resistance has not affected the tempo of the Imperial advance. which is being made under strong protection by R A.F. fighters which patrol throughout the day over hundreds of square miles of desert. The British forces operating from Gallabat on the west Abyssinian frontier are thrusting right into the interior and advance patrols are in the region just north of Lake Tana. In Kenya the Fascist flag no longer flics. A Reuter correspondent says it is understood that practically no Italians now remain in Kenya territory. It is emphasised that in no way are any of the actions in Africa to be regarded as isolated campaigns: they are all part of the one Imperial and Allied offensive.
