The Pahiatua Racing Club’s annual meeting was concluded yesterday in fine but humid weather. The track was still on the easy side, and inclined to cut up. The total for the meeting was £21.320. compared with £17,318 10s last year, an increase of £4OOl 10s. Following the running of the Pongaroa Highweight Handicap, the rider of Star Zone, E. Temperion, and the trainer. A. R. Parker, of Awapuni, were charged under Rule 282 with the horse not being run on its merits. The judicial committee found that on the evidence, and specially as the mare had got her tongue over the bit, there was no deliberate effort not to run Star Zone on her merits.
