MANGAPAKEHA
SEVERE STORM WORST FOR MANY YEARS. I (“Times-Age” Special, t ' Further details regarding Sunday afternoon's thunderstorm in the East Coast district show that it was the most severe storm of its kind experienced for many years. The fury of the disturbance appeared to be centred in the Mangapakeha Valley, where terrific rain fell for well over an hour, in which time the stream rose six feet. Most of the metal on the road in the locality was washed away and although local flooding was caused, the water quickly disappeared once the deluge stopped. The cow killed by lightning was an animal belonging to Mr. Norman Groves. It was standing in the middle of an open paddock when it was struck by lightning.
