Informed circles state that the Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull) told the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee that American aid had been largely responsible for Britain's ability to resist invasion during the last, seven months. He is reported to have added that the increasing assistance, envisaged under the British Aid Bill, will not involve the United States in war. but the United -Slates was endangered in both the Atlantic and Pacific, necessitating greater American aid for Britain, Greece and China. A committeeman said the State Department apparently had information that an invasion attempt was scheduled for September, but there was n<> clue as to why it did not eventuate. The Speaker of the House of Representatives. Mr Rayburn, and the Democratic leader, Mr McCormack predicted that the House will overwhelmingly approve the Bill.
