WORK FOR NEW 2EALAND LEAGUE.fI
VISCOUNT GALWAY’S FAREWELL
By Telegraph—Press Association. I WELLINGTON. This Day
An assurance has been given by the Governor-General > Viscount Galway> that the Navy League in New Zealand is fully alive to the needs of men of the Royal Navy and the Merchant Service
not only in the provision of comforts during the war but also in preparation for the di:Ticulties of the period to follow.
Speaking at the opening of the conference of the Navy League War Council. at which plans were discussed for meeting the needs of these men. Lord Galway read a letter from Sir Sydney Freemantle in England, expressing appreciation of the work done by the league in New Zealand and stressing that, with the increased personnel of tile Navy, needs were greater than ever Lord Galway mentioned that there were many articles of clothing unsuitable through colour or other reasons for the Royal Navy, but which would be thoroughly appreciated by nun on merchant ships. Ho expressed regret that this was his last appearance at the council and assured members that he would endeavour to establish contact with the Navy League in England and do his part to ensure its work being carried on smoothly and etfectivelv.
Best wishes were extended to the Governor-General. Lady Galway and their family for a safe journey.
