SUCCESSFUL RAID MADE ON BERAT
j GREEKS MAINTAINING ATTACKS. ———— THRUST AT TEPELENE. 1 A Royal Air Force Middle East j communique transmitted by the I 8.8. C.. reports a successful raid on I Berat. in Albania, behind the area ! in which the Greeks are pressing towards Tepelene. High explosive bombs were dropped on motor transport, troop concentrations and on buildings east of Berat. All our planes returned safely. North of Klisura the Greeks are intensifying their attacks in spite of heavy Italian resistance. Further captures of prisoners and materials have ' been made. Heavy activity is reported I on the central front j General Cavallero. the new Italian ! commander, is reported to be reorgan- ! ising bis troops on a new defensive ! line in Albania. VAIN EFFORTS ITALIAN COUNTER-ATTACKS BROKEN. MORE CAPTURES OF MEN AND MATERIAL. LONDON. January 20. Italian forces yesterday unsuccessfully counter-attacked beyond Klisura. The Greeks allowed the attackers to approach before firing a sudden hail of bullets, and the confused enemy thereupon hastily retreated after wildly throwing a few grenades. Italian artillery did not attempt to support the counterattack. Heavy snowfall on most of the rest of the Albanian front has restricted the operations to local artillery duels. A Greek communique states that in limited local operations numerous prisoners and abundant material were captured. A spokesman in Athens said that in spite of the snow the Greeks have furthei 1 advanced their lines and two further regiments of the “Wolves of Tuscany" Division have been destroyed.
