PATRIOTIC FUND EFFORT. , That all efforts to raise funds for | patriotic purposes should be concen- ! trated on the Queen Carnival, the stock ; drive and the personal canvassing of i the Masterton County was a decision ■ arrived at by the Masterton Patriotic ; Committee at a meeting last night. The : Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, presided over a j fair attendance. I Consideration of the report of the ; committee appointed to organise a j Queen Carnival was the main business jof the meeting. The chairman of this | committee. Mr J. Jameson reported ! that good was being made i with the enlistment of support for the ! four queens. He said that with the : holidays mainly over there would be j no trouble now in getting the carnival i running smoothly. The Army Queen, Miss Marion Holdsworth was already ; in the field and the selections of the ! three other queens would bo announ- ! ced very soon. March 21 had been de- ! cided as the closing date, and a moI tion was later carried that the corona- ! tion ceremony should be held on Wednesday, March 26. z . Messrs J. C. D. Mackley, F. C/Daniell and H. H. Mawley were appointed to supervise the canvassing of Masterton County. CARNIVAL COMMITTEE. Mr J. Jameson presided over a meeting later of the Queen Carnival Committee. As chairman of a sub-committee appointed to make arrangements for the closing night of the Queen Carnival campaign. Mr E. M. Hodder said it was suggested that a pipe band parade the
J streets from 7 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. and that the Municipal Band pla.v outside the Town Hall from 7.30 p.m. till 8 p.m. The hall would be divided into four !i sections—one for each Queen Commil- ; tec. and the objective would be a gay J carnival scene. These recommenda- : tions were adopted. A coronation ceremony on the fol- : lowing Wednesday was decided on. , The coronation would be in conjunc- : tion with a concert in the Opera House and the Masterton Savage Club ! would be asked to arrange a proi gramme. To deal with the crowning ! of the successful queen, it was decided to ask the following to act as a committee:—Mr H. P. Hugo. Mrs R. Page, Miss M. Cameron and Mrs Francis, with power to add. THE NAVY QUEEN. There was a disap]x>inling altend- : ance of eleven al a meeting last night ' <-f prospective supporters of the Navy Queen. Mr J. Robertson presided and I Mr I. I. McGregor was elected secre- ! tary. .After general discussion, it was decided to call a meeting for next I Monday evening at 7 o’clock in the ; Lecture Room. Municipal Buildings, nt which it was hoped there would be an attendance fully representative of ihe ! sports bodies of Masterton. ARMY QUEEN. A ladies’ committee was set up last ■ night .it a general meeting of .Army Queen supporters. It is reported that in view of the number of offers made, the committee will be particularly strong. Anyone wishing to help in the .Army Queen campaign is asked to contact the secretarv Mr Havden, of the State Kitchenette.
