Sir Crusoe accounted for the January Handicap. The Masterton horse Gay Fox won the Douro Handicap by a length from Kotua. The Metropolitan Handicap went to a rank outsider in Night Eruption, with the Masterton mare Cheerful Lady second. The Goldfields Cup at the Thames meeting was won by Gay Rosette, with the favourite, Mintlaw, second. Royal Lancer, the favourite, won the Cup at the Wairio meeting, with Sea Lady second.
