0 FEDERAL SCHEME ANNOUNCED. STATEMENT BY MR. MENZIES. ■By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY. January 17. The Federal Premier. Mr R. G. Men zies. has announced lhe cstablislunen of a Federal child endowment scheme to provide for paying an allowance o: live shillings weekly for each chile after the first, in families to be covered Many details of the scheme still have to be worked out but it will not be confined to basic wage earners and wil therefore cover a much wider fielc than the scheme operating in Nev. South Wales. The Commonweal!! scheme does not involve contribution: from income earners who will benefi under it. The Commonwealth scheme which will probably supersede the New South Wales scheme may begit to operate at the beginning of the nex financial vear in Julv.
