PRISON ESCAPEES

FURTHER CHARGES YESTERDAY

ACCUSED SENT TO TRIAL.

'By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. January 17.

A large collection of goods allegedly stolen by the four prisoners who escaped from the Auckland prison on October 1. following an attack on warders, was exhibited in the Magistrate’s Court today when charges of theft and conversion were heard against them. The accused were: Randall Reginald David Smith, aged 27. labourer, serving a life sentence for murder; David Fraser Watson, aged 21. seaman and labourer, serving a term for arson; Bryan James O’Hehir, aged 23, serving a term for burglary; and John Henry Silva, aged 25, labourer and butcher, serving a term for breaking and entering and theft. The charges included alleged conversion of two motor cars and the theft of one motor car.

The police gave evidence concerning goods which wore recovered from the camp after the recapture ot the prisoners.

All four prisoners pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
