After the organisations of Jehovah’s Witnesses had been declared unlawful in a special “Gazette, ’ issued about eighteen hours after the announcement of the ban, Federal and State police raided premises in a number of places in the Commonwealth and seized quantities of literature and equipment. Police and military experts severely criticised the decision to announce the ban before the issue of the “Gazette” enabling the seizure of papers and equipment.
During the raids in Brisbane, a constable was struck with an axe and four other policemen were assaulted.
