HOME GUARD
EVERY SUPPORT FROM FARMERS' UNION.
POSSIBILITIES IN TRAINING
A decision t<> give the Home Guard every possible support was made nt yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union.
Discussion arose from a statement made on behalf of Mr I. T. Daniell relative to the training of the Horne Guard.
Mr R, W Kcbbell said the Home Guard could do a tremendous lot of useful work even without weajxjns. In his owl) district there was a large number of rifles and in the event of an emergency every man in that area could be armed with a serviceable rifle Those who had not got rifles could be organised efficiently, so that they could fall in in their right places and be able to march off anywhere* Steps could be taken tn organise the necessary transport for the convcyanco af the Home Guard :>> any point desir'd. If they could get the Home Guard efficient in carrying out that work they would be dmng good Mr Daniell suggested using the Home Guard for munition making. There were plenty .of mon anti excellent machinery available. The Wairarapa College boy ■ had been making gauges anti Moist 1 keys for the munitions controller and most complimentary statements < ncernmg their accuracy had betn. received V.’i’ti this districts •qmpmenl <•( lathes and electricity ‘hey could make a start an the enorntou job of munition making and re•cturmd soldiers and the Home Guard ..id bi" t.rej-.iit'd ’• rnasi the plant 24 ■;.!'■ a
