WAR PRODUCTION

NEW ZEALAND ACTIVITIES

MANUFACTURE OF MUNITIONS.

SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN NEAR FUTURE.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. January 10.

"New Zealand’s present activities in the manufacture of munitions will be substantially increased in the near future, and many more skilled and semi-skilled operatives will be needed," said Mr A. W. Nisbet, Wellington. who has been appointed by the Government to supervise the training of munition workers throughout the Dominion. He is now in Auckland conferring with the employers and workers in the footwear and metal trades.

Mr Nisbet said Auckland offered considerable scope for the expansion of war production. One of the Dominion's most difficult problems was to find key instructors. He added that the Government had received many offers of assistance from footwear manufacturers here, and these had influenced it in selecting Auckland for beginning the training of footwear operatives to supply military needs.
