There was no German air activij ty over Britain on Wednesday I night, the 8.8. C. states, but R.A.F. i bombers attacked the enemy naval I bases at Wilhelmshaven and Emi den. At Wilhelmshaven many ex* I plosions were heard and large fires were started. Many fires were caused also at Emden and on the island of Borkum. None of the British aircraft are missing. The attack on Wilhelmshaven began soon after 8 o'clock in the evening and the last of the pilots did not leave until shortly before three in the morning and the last of the pilots did not leave until shortly before three in the morning. Many fires were started and some could be seen fifty miles away. At Emden docks, shipbuilding yards and industrial plants were successfully raided and many large tires were started. For the first time in four nights enemy planes and British anti-aircraft gun fire were heard in the London area soon after dark last night. SUCCESSFUL ACTION AGAINST NIGHT RAIDERS. TWO AIRMEN DECORATED. A new* list of war honours issued in London includes the first decorations awarded for action against night raiders, the 8.8. C. reports. A Hight lieutenant, who is awarded the D.F.C., is credited with 25 night flights, in which he destroyed two enemy bombers anti made seven interceptions. A sergeant is awarded the iI.F’.M. for courage and resource in attacking a night raider. Both men. the official citation states. have shown great determination and eagerness to seek out enemy night bombers. REHOUSING WORK GOOD PROGRESS MADE IN MANCHESTER. CENSORSHIP & CASUALTY RUMOURS. LONDON. January 9. The chairman of the emergency committee of the Manchester City Council declared that 4000 homeless persons have been rehoused in the last 10 days and several thousand houses have already been repaired and even more surveyed. The chairman blamed the censorship for wild rumours that have been current that many thousands of people were killed in the last big raid, The censorship prevents publication of the figures.
